Great Jobs, Safe Neighborhoods, Affordable Healthcare, & Excellent Schools
Crime- The Governor’s recent crackdown on meth is important, but we must not forget the other drugs affecting our urban community such as crack cocaine. Jason will call for tougher penalties on drug trafficking, raise awareness among our youth on the dangers of street drugs, and request more funding for programs that work to reduce the recidivism rate.
Healthcare- Tennessee trails most states in providing older and disabled citizens a chance to receive long-term care in their homes and communities, rather than nursing homes, which are usually more costly. Jason will advocate that funds now used only for nursing homes will be made available for long-term care services for those people preferring to stay at home.
Education- Nashville Metro public schools are not receiving an adequate proportion of the Basic Education Plan (BEP) funding compared to other counties. Jason will demand reform in Tennessee’s BEP funding formula so Nashville receives a greater share of state funds to address problems which uniquely burden our schools.
Economic Development- The future of Nashville must be lead by a strong vision of possibility. Jason will reject any effort to create a special exemption to tax our district and Downtown at a higher sales tax rate than the rest of Tennessee. Higher sales tax rates hurt the growth of our district and unfairly burden our residents.
Community Development- Many Middle Tennesseans work in Nashville, but choose to live and shop in our surrounding counties. Jason will promote a “Live & Shop Nashville” campaign geared towards stimulating our local job market, economy, and businesses.
Housing- Our district is growing and changing rapidly so we must assure that progress and new developments don’t price Nashvillians out of their homes. Jason will fight for affordable housing opportunities and work to minimize possible future property tax increases for homeowners living on fixed incomes.
Taxes- Tennesseans shouldn’t have to pay such a high sales tax rate for food. Jason will work to reduce the regressive sales tax placed on groceries so you can keep your money and put it back into our communities.
